Eggleston Model Nine
Demos
We are upgrading our Eggleston Model Nine demo for the Eggleston
Savoy's. Our set of nine are in mint conditions. Please
contact Larry at High-End Palace for details and pricing.
The Eggleston
Savoy is the latest
addition to the EgglestonWorks Reference Series, the Savoy takes its
place among the most detailed, accurate, and musical loudspeakers in the
world. Based on the highly acclaimed Ivy Reference, the Savoy's lineage
is rich with meticulous craftsmanship and perfection as the design goal.
The Ivy, which was created under the guidance of Bob Ludwig of Gateway
Mastering Studios, has now become the two channel reference upon which
dozens of Grammy Award-winning albums have been based.
Using the knowledge gained
from this technological process, we at EgglestonWorks set out to build
the perfect speaker. Our ultimate goal?
Treble System: 1" fabric dome tweeter.
Midbass System: Twin compound-loaded 6" drivers with 3"
voice coils.
Subwoofer/Midwoofer
System: Four 12" woofers configured in twin pairs of push/push
compound loading.
Midbass System: Twin compound-loaded 6" drivers with 3"
voice coils.
Enclosure
Design: Pressure-release design using 100% cavity stuffing and open
back chambering to eliminate resonance.
Dimensions: 58"
tall, 18" wide at bottom, 7.5" wide at top, and 24" deep.
Weight: 410 lb each
The Eggleston
Ivy
is the
result of years of loudspeaker driver, and crossover research at
EgglestonWorks. Under contract by Gateway Mastering in Maine, this
speaker was designed to produce nearly unlimited dynamics and SPL’s
through the most neutral and transparent means possible. The large tower
contains a total of 22 drivers per channel, and is often described as
"an Andra on steroids!" The Ivy may very well be the ultimate
in reference loudspeaker design.
Frequency response: -4dB @ 13 Hz
to well beyond 24,000 Hz.
Efficiency: 87dB
Impedance: 7 Ohms, nominal. Minimum impedance is 5 Ohms.
Tweeter: Two 1" cloth domes. Each tweeter has a
large-diameter vent on its pole piece and a big aperiodic damping
chamber that imitates an infinite baffle loading. The size of the pole
piece across the driver surface area, increases
linearity and power handling, while having exemplary frequency response.
The tweeters are manufactured on a special production line under
laboratory conditions.
Mid-bass: Twelve 6" polypropylene, double-magnet driver,
with a 3" voice coil diameter. Extremely rigid structural physics
and the piston-like action of this driver produce exceptionally quick
transients and a complete absence of coloration.
These drivers are run full-range in four independently tuned
transmission lines. Each transmission line contains three drivers in a
pressure driven design, mounted front to back. The rear drivers reduce
backpressure on the baffle-mounted drivers, simulating a free air
resonance while simultaneously increasing linearity and power handling.
Bass: Nine
12" woofers loaded in three parallel chambers. Each chamber
consists of three woofers firing in a pressure driven configuration. The
rear drivers reduce backpressure on the baffle-mounted drivers,
simulating a free air resonance while simultaneously increasing
linearity and power handling. The rear drivers are vented out the back
of the enclosure through 4" ports.
Enclosure: The
extremely heavy enclosure becomes slightly wider as the speaker gets
deeper on the bass enclosure and slightly narrower on the high frequency
section. This minimizes parallel wall interactions, while increasing
rigidity and stability.

NEW! MBL
101 Mk III
The
amazing MBL 101 Mk III are now available. The technological
tour de force that has continually redefined audio playback
for over 30 years. MK II’s are the refined version of the
earlier 101e Radialstrahler which garnered worldwide
recognition as a truly great and classic loudspeaker. A
speaker that is equally competent at reproducing the delicacy
of a string quartet and the bone crushing transient dynamics
of a rock performance.
101 - MKII -Improvements
New Base Drivers - offering more control
Improved Upper Midrange
New subwoofer cabinet design, aquistic center more improved bottom
end
New Crossover Technology
Retuned front to rear signal
New ring design surrounding the bass ports
Reduced speaker height, improved listening
New 101 -MKII grill design
Combining performance, looks and luxury, the 101e - MKII does not
produce sound as a conventional forward-firing point source, but
as genuine 360-degree-radiating omnidirectional spheres.
“Radialstrahl” means to “emit sound in a circular signal.”
The tweeter, midrange, and bass modules are each pulsating
spheres, while a custom-designed subwoofer module is housed below.
Each hand-finished 101e - MKII is a thing to behold—a sculptural
device that benefits from classic German attention to detail, and
obsession with perfection.
Due to its revolutionary construction the Radialstrahler is able
to produce three-dimensional sound in the living room at home that
corresponds to that of a concert hall. In theory, this concept is
simple: Like a musical instrument, the Radialstrahler radiates the
sound waves in all directions – not only in one direction
like conventional speakers, effectively energizing your entire
room with sound. In practice, the concept is not as easy, of course. We had to
develop and process the components and the materials that create
such a totally new soundadventure.
The Radialstrahler concept includes a circular vertical
arrangement of lamellas around an axis for each frequency range
(tweeter, midrange driver and subwoofer). On the upper side, these
lamellas are firmly glued in a thrust bearing and on the lower
side, they are connected to a moving coil. If a pulse of music is
now transmitted from the amplifier to the speaker, these slightly
bent lamellas (therefore the Radialstrahler is also called “Biegeschwinger”)
are oscillated – they radiate sound waves, in this case music.
The result is a sound of unusual acoustic space and realism that
is absolutely free from coloring, that is neutral and homogenous.
In order to meet the high demands, especially concerning realism,
the numerous lamellas being arranged around the axis in the
tweeter and midrange driver are made from one of the
highest-quality materials: they are manually made from carbon
fiber, pressed under a high pressure and hardened at an exact
temperature. The assembly of the exactly controlled components
requires absolute precision in fine mechanics. The same applies for the lamellas of the woofer, which show the
lowest sound distortion, when they are manufactured from an
aluminum/magnesium alloy.
With other procedures that are not less complex we optimize the
sound of all three systems in order to avoid distortions,
vibrations and other undesired modifications of the sound. Thus,
we attach importance to a highly effective system for cooling the
moving coils, so that the coils only convert a very small part of
the fed energy into heat that may have an influence on the sound.
For such a high pulse power like that of the Radialstrahler (2200
W), this influence may be important. The mbl 101e -MKII still
reproduces the most fast musical pulses like that of an orchestra
neutrally and without any distortions, when many other speaker
systems already have to give up.
In order to create a solid basis for the homogenous realism of the
three Radialstrahler systems, we integrated a subwoofer into the
mbl 101e - MKII that has also been carefully developed and that
substantiates the precise play in the subwoofer range. Like the
tweeter, the midrange driver and the woofer the subwoofer is
submitted to the objective of the overall system as a whole: the
natural sound. Accordingly, it is perfectly integrated in this
4-way speaker system which is unique – not only with regard to
technology. The sound of the Radialstrahler should be just perfect, but its
appearance should not be less: Our acoustical showpiece should not
only be just beautiful; it should be an esthetical pleasure,
making the avant-garde design justified by its functioning a
statement of the senses. And we have been confirmed from many
sides that we got very close to our objective.
The mbl 101e -MKII simply lights up with natural elegance: It is
modern and timeless in one, it differs in every respect from
conventional speakers, but it is discreetly beautiful. It is a
harmonic complement to every stylish living space without making a
negative impression as musical furniture. specially as the
Radialstrahler really sounds brilliantly everywhere). But whoever
regards it deliberately – and which visitor would not like to do
that? – will be bewitched by its appearance: even when looking
at it, the manually selected materials make you feel like
touching, feeling the brilliant workmanship.
But listening is believing. And it's safe to say that the new
101e- MK II provides a thrilling and unforgettable musical
experience. Whether you're hearing it for the first or the
hundredth time, the 101e- MKII is bound to raise goose bumps, to
increase the pulse. With the 101 music doesn't seem to come from
the speakers, but is simply there, in all its majesty and beauty.

The GENESIS
1.1 & new 1.2
The
Genesis™ 1 version 2 loudspeaker system is the latest iteration
of the flagship loudspeaker system from Genesis. Created for the
music lover who accepts no compromises in the reproduction of the
musical event, it is the culmination of a 30-year legacy of
reference-level line-source dipole flagship loudspeaker systems
dating back to the Genesis I in 1993, and even back to the IRS™
in 1977.
This state-of-the-art system is
designed to reproduce music at live listening levels with
virtually no restrictions on dynamic range, frequency response, or
width, breadth and height of soundstage. It is one of the very few
speakers in the world that is capable of recreating the size,
weight, impact and listening levels of a live performance with
ease. The Genesis 1 is commissioned - it is custom-built in the
USA for the most dedicated and discerning music-lovers worldwide
and the owner's name is engraved into the external Corian™
cross-over boxes. The G1 is a four-tower loudspeaker system
featuring separate midrange/tweeter "wings" and
servo-controlled woofer towers. This separation allows the
mid/high frequency panels to be placed to optimize soundstage and
imaging for the listening position, and the bass towers to be
placed for smooth and extended bass response within the room.
The high frequency wings are dipole
line-sources. That means that there is minimal vertical
dispersion, and horizontal cancellation in the plane of the
drivers. The result is minimal floor and ceiling
"bounce" and very much reduced side-wall reflections,
resulting in solidly pin-point imaging, and a wide and spacious
soundstage. The G1's listening "sweet spot" is huge,
which means there are several "best seats in the house"
and you can enjoy the ultimate listening experience with friends
and family. Two of the new Genesis Servo-Controlled Bass Amplifier
modules are supplied with each G1 system so that the woofer towers
can be tuned separately. Dedicated cables are provided for all
bass connection, providing great flexibility in placement and
connection. This means that the separate bass towers can be
correctly placed within the room without affecting the soundstage
and image at the listening position. With a column of bass drivers
extending almost the height of the room, there are no standing
waves between the floor and ceiling. This results in
tightly-controlled, extended, smooth, and dynamic bass response in
any room.
A military-spec aerospace hook-up wire
is used for the internal wiring of the speakers and the external
crossover is meticulously hand-built and measured at every step to
ensure that each pair is absolutely matched. Individual components
are hand-matched to within less than 0.1% tolerance. The coherence
between tweeter and midrange, and midrange and bass has been
elevated to a seamlessness that has not been experience before The
standard finish is a Rosewood veneer with Blackberry Ice Corian,
but any other wood veneer and Corian colors can be specified as a
custom finish. When you have a Genesis 1 system in your listening
room, you have live music in your home and you have the best seats
in the house. No rain checks, no lost tickets, no concertmaster
with the flu, no substitute divas. The Genesis 1 is the ultimate
expression of your love of music.
The GENESIS G5.3 is the latest generation of the revered
5-Series loudspeakers starting with the Genesis V in 1994. It
comes from immaculate pedigree; the second generation G500 was
reviewed by Stereophile, and received numerous accolades and
recommendations. The third generation G501 was renowned for
setting standards in bass performance and musical coherence and
the fourth - G5.2 - was featured on the cover of the February 200
issue of Stereophile.
The new
G5.3 (Generation III) represents a change in design direction for
the company. Careful steps were taken to raise the impedance of
the crossover in the frequency ranges most affected on the
previous model. A higher impedance crossover network works better
with a tube amplifier because the lowest impedance point does not
result in reduced output voltage from the amp, and a consequent
hollowness in the midrange. With a solid-state amplifier, the
higher impedance results in less stress on the power supply, and
no hardness in the midrange because of distortion at that point.
This was done without resorting to Zobel networks which would have
filtered off some of the musicality and dynamics of the
loudspeaker. The higher impedance and new crossover makes it
easier for real-world amplifiers to drive. That results in a
loudspeaker that will be able to realize its potential when used
in any music-lover's system. The G5.3
features a unique suspension system for the cabinet so that it can
be used on the many types of flooring encountered throughout the
world - including uneven natural stone tiles, granite and marble
floors, deep pile carpet, and suspended wooden floors. The
suspension system is really like a race car. It has wheels
(spikes), the suspension frame, and shock absorbers (decouplers).
It isolates the speaker from floor-borne vibrations (like when
used in the US). It also makes sure that speaker vibrations do not
go into the floor that will affect your components and turntable.
The result is cleaner, much tighter bass, a more precise and
holographic soundstage, and better imaging in more rooms and
installations.
While
the G5 is first and foremost a loudspeaker for music, doing duty
as part of a home theater system would not embarrass it. It will
play to audacious levels, and bass response is full and extended
with the built-in 500W servo-controlled bass amplifier and three
8" aluminum cone woofers per channel. The
servo-bass amplifier allows for both single-ended and balanced
inputs and outputs for LFE - because most home theater systems
only have single-ended outputs. The newly designed 8-inch woofers
use a stronger motor structure, stiffer frame, and larger
suspension to achieve higher SPL's with less distortion. The
woofers have a 12% longer throw than the older G5.2 woofers. This
results in the 3 woofers moving as much air as the older 4 woofers
in the G-V. As they are also lower-distortion motors, the bass
section on the new G5 is better than the bass section of the G-V. The new
G5.3 is a diminutive giant. Other full-range speakers are
behemoths - they are taller, wider, deeper, or just plain BIG. The
G5.3 delivers profoundly powerful bass and a huge life-like
soundstage in a beautiful, graceful, and physically unobtrusive
form. Beautiful high gloss finishes are available to complement
the décor of any home.
The new
GENESIS G5.3 delivers all music, from the simple to the large and
complex, as it was intended at the performance. This is what we
mean by absolute fidelity™. The G5.3 transports the
musical performer, be it a soloist or a 100-piece orchestra, into
your home for your private enjoyment.

DALI MEGALINES III
The MEGALINE parts from decades of design conformity. The two speakers
are a seamless integration of form and function, an unapologetically
monumental display which emphasizes the MEGALINE’s innovative
modular construction.
These reference loudspeakers are capable of reproducing the full dynamics and scale of the
live music experience, revealing the subtleties of inner detail,
contrast, atmosphere, pace and rhythm, all the essential elements
which make recorded music come alive.
The result of a radical
re-evaluation of the traditional approach to loudspeaker design.
Wiping the slate clean DALI’s research and development engineers
questioned conventional wisdom and broke new ground on the road to a
better understanding of the crucial interaction between loudspeaker,
room and listener.
Essentially, the MEGALINE is a two-way
loudspeaker, based on a vertical array of bass/midrange units
alongside a second array of planar dipole ribbon tweeters. Each
array is configured to operate as a single “virtual driver”
extending from floor to ceiling.
We chose to use a stacked modular design
based on three identical modules per channel for critical listening
with a total of 24 custom made
woofer/midrange, 6 DALI-developed ribbon tweeters, outboard active crossover network, an enclosure that is
monumental in appearance and a sound that's a total new
experience for any audiophile.
The Line Source Principle
Conventionally, a loudspeaker is viewed as a point
source, radiating sound equally in all directions in the shape of an
ever-expanding sphere. Since domestic environments rarely consist of
infinite open space, sound will at some point encounter room
boundaries: floor, ceiling and walls.
Sound reflected repeatedly by these surfaces will add
unwanted out-of-phase components, which become a significant
proportion of what is ultimately heard at the listening position. In
this way, the listening room itself exerts considerable negative
influence on the final listening experience.
In order to take the room out of the equation, a
vertical array consisting of a theoretically infinite number of
point sources is created. The design and
the numerous DALI technologies remove several of the problems
that have until now characterized loudspeaker design. The
transparent sound suffers no reflections from floor or
ceiling, and is really without influence from room acoustics
as such. The stereo imaging is exceptional. Link to
Dali's website.
DALI MS5
The impressive sounding and looking Dali
Euphonia MS5 comes equipped with two custom 8” woofers in a
dual chamber bass reflex enclosure with low resonance all-metal
reflex tubes, 6.5” midrange unit and the unique combination of
the fabulous DALI Super ribbon tweeter and a 1” soft dome
tweeter hard-wired to a hand assembled crossover with tri-wiring
terminals. Truly a world class product, a statement in a
high-end speaker system design.
The EUPHONIA MS5 (MS for Main
Speaker) is the flagship of the EUPHONIA Series. At 124 cm
tall and a dead weight of 69 kg, this is an armor-crushing
giant of a loudspeaker. Essentially, the EUPHONIA MS5 is a
three-way bass reflex speaker with 2 x 8" bass woofers,
1x 6.5” midrange driver and DALI´s proprietary ribbon/soft
dome hybrid tweeter module. In fact, it is more a three-and-a
half-way design, as the dome and the ribbon do not cover the
same frequency range. The Hybrid Tweeter Module and the paper/woodfiber
cone drivers are core DALI technologies and the heart of the
EUPHONIA Series. Same core technologies are emplyed throughout
the DALI speaker range.
Stereophile magazine (USA):
"For the first time, the moderate volume level
that seems, for me, congruent for image size and distance on
the recording can clearly be heard."
"Superb value for dollar,
rich and full sound at lower volume levels, engaging detail
and musicality,"
Udo Pipper from Stereo
magazine (Germany): "Thanks to the ingenious
tweeter conception the Euphonia´s (MS5) resounded
with ardent clarity and transparency."
"Indeed a terrific
loudspeaker...somewhat more "joyful" than its little
brother (MS4), yet unmistakably
superior"
"In terms of measured
performance an almost perfect transducer."
Hi-Fi & Musik Magazine
(Sweden): "This is definitely a loudspeaker
we can unconditionally recommend."
"DALI Euphonia MS5 is such a
multi-facetted loudspeaker that no listener will come away
disappointed."

Statement from
a review!
The B&W
803D provides world-class sound. Right out of the gate, with
two-channel music the 803Ds grabbed me with a deep, wide soundstage
and excellent imaging. Vocals that were recorded to be in the dead
center were reproduced in the dead center. If they were meant to be
off to one side or the other, they were. Guitars, drums, harmonicas,
banjos—you name it, and the 803Ds will place it right where the
musicians and, ultimately, the engineers intended it to be placed.
One of the most impressive displays of
staging was with "Katy Hill" from the CD The Three
Pickers, a track that captures some 25 instruments on stage at the
same time, including multiple guitars, fiddles, and banjos. Having
seen the DVD rendition of this concert many times, I know exactly
where everyone is supposed to be, and that's right where they were
when I listened to the CD through the 803Ds. The speakers also did a
fantastic job of separating each individual fiddle, guitar, or
banjo, even if they were playing the same part.

I suspect many of you want to know if
the diamond tweeter lives up to its hype in the listening room. It
does, indeed. Anyone concerned about diamond's potential for
considerable mass will find no evidence of it here. This tweeter is
as agile and pure-sounding as any I've ever heard, no matter what
material I gave it. Cymbals were crisp and clean, with no sibilance
or overhang. Benny Goodman's clarinet was as natural as the
recording would allow it to be. And Little Walter's harmonica had an
attack and immediacy that can only have been just short of hearing
it live. The B&W system saved its most impressive musical output
for high-resolution material, though. It was here that, with
properly engineered material, the speakers absolutely disappeared,
and all that was left was music in a natural and effortless state. I
could ramble on about how impressively the system reproduced each
individual frequency range, but the ultimate goal of each speaker is
to operate as its own subsystem, reproducing the entire spectrum (or
at least as much of it as it's designed to) successfully and without
holes.

30 mm and one 20 mm Kharma/Thiel diamond tweeters, two ceramic
midrange-units and two Nomex-Kevlar subwoofer units placed in a huge
multilayer wooden cabinet.
The
diamond tweeters have a underhung-system, thereby guiding all the energy
straight to the cone and reducing the energy-loss by warmth to a
absolute minimum. The latest Kharma technologies have been applied to
achieve a perfect acoustic picture using pure silver-gold wiring and
materials like High Pressure Laminate and aluminum. The
resistors used in the Grand Exquisite are a development of Kharma and
represent the ultimate in freedom from any graininess with negligible
induction. All Exquisites use the recently developed Kharma Connectors,
guaranteeing a negligible loss of information. For more information

Sonus faber Extrema
Absolute mint
set of Sonus Faber Extrema's speakers in conditions
that you won't believe, through the years we have sold a few
sets of Extrema's but we have never seen a pair in these
conditions. See for your self in the high-resolution photos
above. The Extrema's
are considered as one of the best monitors ever made in the
history of high-end audio, they are one of our favorite
speakers from Franco's designs. One of the things that we like
about these Extrema's is the pride and work that went into
making these speakers. About the sound I can tell you that
they sound superb, and that they are one of the very few
monitors ever made that can handle high SPL's without minimal compression.
We recommend high powered/current amplifiers for
these Extrema's, they sound best with 300 to 10000 w/p/c
reference solid state amplifiers.
