Our ultimate goal?  Subwoofer/Midwoofer System: Four 12" woofers configured in twin pairs of push/push compound loading. Midbass System: Twin compound-loaded 6" drivers with 3" voice coils. Treble System: 1" fabric dome tweeter. Enclosure Design: Pressure-release design using 100% cavity stuffing and open back chambering to eliminate resonance. The Eggleston Ivy is the result of years of loudspeaker driver, and crossover research at EgglestonWorks. Under contract by Gateway Mastering in Maine, this speaker was designed to produce nearly unlimited dynamics and SPL’s through the most neutral and transparent means possible. The large tower contains a total of 22 drivers per channel, and is often described as "an Andra on steroids!" The Ivy may very well be the ultimate in reference loudspeaker design.

Frequency response: -4dB @ 13 Hz to well beyond 24,000 Hz.

Efficiency: 87dB

Impedance: 7 Ohms, nominal. Minimum impedance is 5 Ohms.

Tweeter: Two 1" cloth domes. Each tweeter has a large-diameter vent on its pole piece and a big aperiodic damping chamber that imitates an infinite baffle loading. The size of the pole piece across the driver surface area, increases linearity and power handling, while having exemplary frequency response. The tweeters are manufactured on a special production line under laboratory conditions.

Mid-bass: Twelve 6" polypropylene, double-magnet driver, with a 3" voice coil diameter. Extremely rigid structural physics and the piston-like action of this driver produce exceptionally quick transients and a complete absence of coloration. These drivers are run full-range in four independently tuned transmission lines. Each transmission line contains three drivers in a pressure driven design, mounted front to back. The rear drivers reduce backpressure on the baffle-mounted drivers, simulating a free air resonance while simultaneously increasing linearity and power handling.

Bass: Nine 12" woofers loaded in three parallel chambers. Each chamber consists of three woofers firing in a pressure driven configuration. The rear drivers reduce backpressure on the baffle-mounted drivers, simulating a free air resonance while simultaneously increasing linearity and power handling. The rear drivers are vented out the back of the enclosure through 4" ports.

Enclosure: The extremely heavy enclosure becomes slightly wider as the speaker gets deeper on the bass enclosure and slightly narrower on the high frequency section. This minimizes parallel wall interactions, while increasing rigidity and stability.

Internal wiring by Transparent Audio / Single Cardas rhodium binding posts.

The crossover for the tweeter is hard wired. We utilize Hovland MusiCaps and Vishay resistors.

Damping material or stuffing is Acousta-Stuff, a nylon polyamide loose bulk fiber that is tri-lobal (instead of round) and multi-directionally crimped so that the strands interlock to form a very cohesive mass that does not require support and will not settle.

The grills are made of an extremely transparent material that is stretched over a thin steel frame. They attach via magnets that are buried under the surface laminate, allowing the speakers to look as finished with the grills on as with them off.

Black Italian granite is utilized.

     New at The Palace new speaker designs by Carl Marchisotto in Holbrook, New York raging from $3000 to $165,000. Nola's Viper line of open baffle speakers has been upgraded for improved performance, fit and finish. The Viper IIA is an upgraded version of the Viper II. The Viper IIA uses two newly designed 220mm cast-frame bass drivers with aluminum cones. These bass drivers operate in perfect piston mode over their whole operating range. The first breakup mode is at 5000 Hz while in the system; the woofer is operated to only 500 Hz. This performance greatly reduces distortion and coloration throughout the full range. Each bass driver is mounted in a separate sealed chamber. Each chamber is a different size in order to provide an improved speed-bandwidth product and a smoother room LF response. The dual woofers provide improved room loading throughout the lower midrange and mid-bass with increased power handling. Both woofers are run in parallel for maximum amplifier control. These bass drivers are "trickle down" versions of the cast magnesium units used in the Nola Grand Reference.

 All of the loudspeakers in the Viper series feature open baffle midrange and high frequency transducers that are deployed in a 45 degree mirror-imaged array (the same as the Grand Reference) to provide more realistic image sizes while retaining excellent image focus. The new midrange driver, originally developed for Pegasus, features a cast frame, tri-laminate 110mm cone driven by a premium Alnico magnet system for a natural reproduction of mid-band frequencies which cannot be duplicated when using conventional magnets. The high frequency transducer is a 25mm magnesium / aluminum dipole dome driver. The dipole dome sounds much more natural as opposed to using a separate tweeter mounted in the rear. The dipole rear wave is coherent with the front wave since the same diaphragm generates it.

All Viper models feature removable front and rear grilles that allow the Viper the most open sound, completely free of obstructions for the midrange and tweeter. All Viper models now use black high gloss, solid acrylic sub baffles to stiffen and further damp the main front baffle. Drivers are mounted with machine screws and threaded inserts in the cabinet.

NOLA GRAND REFERENCE IV.1

    The GR IV.1 Main Tower employs a total of 19 of the highest quality transducers per channel. The Main Towers are built in mirror-imaged arrays for accurate imaging. Bass and mid-bass frequencies from 40 Hz to 400 Hz are reproduced by four advanced 8 inch cast frame woofers per channel. Two woofers are mounted vertically at the top and two are mounted vertically at the bottom of the Main Tower. The four 8 inch woofers employ cast, surface treated magnesium cones with natural rubber surrounds and solid copper-machined phase plugs. Perfect piston response is maintained to a high 5 kHz, far beyond their 400 Hz operating ranges, for excellent impact and low coloration. The woofers are mounted in individual sealed chambers. Cabinet walls are bonded with proprietary damping layers for inaudible coloration. The four woofers operate with staggered bass resonant frequencies to increase the speed-bandwidth product.

The high frequency transducer system consists of nine 4-inch ribbon tweeters per tower, operating in a short vertical line array. These transducers are true ribbons wherein the conductor and the diaphragm are one and the same. The moving mass is only .0061 gram for near instant acceleration. Extreme high-level transient attacks are taken in stride without harshness, allowing for instance, live levels of cymbals and other harmonically rich musical sounds to be reproduced. Driven by heavy neodymium magnet systems, these transducers are equally comfortable reproducing nuance as well as extreme peak levels. Nine small ribbons are utilized in lieu of one large ribbon in order to take advantage of the superior control of the smaller diaphragm, for greater accuracy.

The Grand Reference IV.1 Subwoofer Towers are designed to complement the response of the main towers from 16 Hz to 40 Hz. The Main Towers operate full range to their acoustic rolloff while the Variable Low Pass Filter rolls off the response of the Subwoofer Tower at 40 Hz. A separate, high current, stable amplifier is required to drive these towers. Each Subwoofer Tower consists of four high-output 12-inch transducers operating in a vertical array. Each transducer is isolated in a separate vented chamber to eliminate inter-driver interference. A 3-inch diameter exponential flared port is provided for each 12-inch transducer. The port is flared both on the inside of the enclosure as well as the outside, for minimum low frequency distortion. Special low distortion voice coils driven by massive double-stacked 7 LB magnets for each driver, provide greater than 1¼ inch peak to peak linear excursions.      The brand new GENESIS G5.3 is the latest generation of the revered 5-Series loudspeakers starting with the Genesis V in 1994. It comes from immaculate pedigree; the second generation G500 was reviewed by Stereophile, and received numerous accolades and recommendations. The third generation G501 was renowned for setting standards in bass performance and musical coherence and the fourth - G5.2 - was featured on the cover of the February 200 issue of Stereophile.

The new G5.3 (Generation III) represents a change in design direction for the company. Careful steps were taken to raise the impedance of the crossover in the frequency ranges most affected on the previous model. A higher impedance crossover network works better with a tube amplifier because the lowest impedance point does not result in reduced output voltage from the amp, and a consequent hollowness in the midrange. With a solid-state amplifier, the higher impedance results in less stress on the power supply, and no hardness in the midrange because of distortion at that point. This was done without resorting to Zobel networks which would have filtered off some of the musicality and dynamics of the loudspeaker. The higher impedance and new crossover makes it easier for real-world amplifiers to drive. That results in a loudspeaker that will be able to realize its potential when used in any music-lover's system.

The G5.3 features a unique suspension system for the cabinet so that it can be used on the many types of flooring encountered throughout the world - including uneven natural stone tiles, granite and marble floors, deep pile carpet, and suspended wooden floors. The suspension system is really like a race car. It has wheels (spikes), the suspension frame, and shock absorbers (decouplers). It isolates the speaker from floor-borne vibrations (like when used in the US). It also makes sure that speaker vibrations do not go into the floor that will affect your components and turntable. The result is cleaner, much tighter bass, a more precise and holographic soundstage, and better imaging in more rooms and installations.

       

     While the G5 is first and foremost a loudspeaker for music, doing duty as part of a home theater system would not embarrass it. It will play to audacious levels, and bass response is full and extended with the built-in 500W servo-controlled bass amplifier and three 8" aluminum cone woofers per channel.

The servo-bass amplifier allows for both single-ended and balanced inputs and outputs for LFE - because most home theater systems only have single-ended outputs. The newly designed 8-inch woofers use a stronger motor structure, stiffer frame, and larger suspension to achieve higher SPL's with less distortion. The woofers have a 12% longer throw than the older G5.2 woofers. This results in the 3 woofers moving as much air as the older 4 woofers in the G-V. As they are also lower-distortion motors, the bass section on the new G5 is better than the bass section of the G-V. The new G5.3 is a diminutive giant. Other full-range speakers are behemoths - they are taller, wider, deeper, or just plain BIG. The G5.3 delivers profoundly powerful bass and a huge life-like soundstage in a beautiful, graceful, and physically unobtrusive form. Absolute mint set of Sonus Faber Extrema's speakers in conditions that you won't believe, through the years we have sold a few sets of Extrema's but we have never seen a pair in these conditions. See for your self in the high-resolution photos above. The Extrema's are considered as one of the best monitors ever made in the history of high-end audio, they are one of our favorite speakers from Franco's designs. One of the things that we like about these Extrema's is the pride and work that went into making these speakers. About the sound I can tell you that they sound superb, and that they are one of the very few monitors ever made that can handle high SPL's without minimal compression. We recommend high powered/current amplifiers for these Extrema's, they sound best with 300 to 10000 w/p/c reference solid state amplifiers.
